Author’s Library

With an optical engineering degree, an MBA and a sci-fi-romance book series, our multi-faceted client, Constance Fay, needed more space for her ever expanding book collection. Her upstairs reading loft was just not cutting it and with an abundance of space on her lower level, it was the perfect space for this purpose. Her diverse interests and creativity are reflected in her choice of colors and materials.

We established a rich cerulean blue as the bookcase color and Constance joined me at the Denver Design District to shop for just the right wallcovering to pull the space together. We saw a number of designs that appealed but when she saw this ethereal mural, Constance felt an immediate connection. With its swirl of blues and golds it reads both as a far away galaxy or as an earthly geological specimen. Perfect for our scientist cum sci-fi author.

Constance’s first book series is seen on a slanted shelf behind the library table and a cover poster is to the right. We wrapped a corner area with shelving for a cozy nook. The round fuchsia velvet ottoman provides a perch while perusing through an assortment of books. Grass cloth installed in the open nook space provides a calm and warm background for Constance’s “The Bookworm” art print, a gift from her parents. We chose simple ivory Moroccan wool rugs to break up the expanse of wall to wall carpet. While there’s plenty of room to layer in further design elements, the room is finished and a good foundation for Connie to continue to indulge her enjoyment of design.
